From the mouths of MY babes

I stayed home with the kids on Tuesday morning so we could watch our 44th President take the oath of office together, in real time.

At ages 6 and almost-3, I wondered what they would get out of it. Mostly, I just wanted them to see it.

MiniMe and I were sitting on the sofa. Barack Obama and Chief Justice Roberts approached each other to prepare for the oath. The announcer asked everyone to please rise.

MiniMe stood up from the sofa.

She looked over at me purposefully and said “Mom. The man said everyone please rise.”

I stood up and put my arm around my amazing daughter as we watched the oath together.

Yesterday, two of Muggsy’s teachers were discussing the inauguration, not as a classroom lesson but as a personal conversation. The kids were nearby, but engaged in other activity.

Muggsy heard them, and shouted out “Barack Obama!”

They asked him if he knows who Barack Obama is.

Muggsy stood up straight and said “Our new President.”

My pride overfloweth.

The Sunday paper came with a free DVD copy of "W". On Tuesday, we watched the inauguration live after work (we are 6 hours ahead of Washington) with the kids as well. They watched quite intently and asked many questions about why this was so important.

Again, congratulations on your new president!

Oh, by the by, Switzerland helped dress Michelle Obama for the inauguration. Forster Rohner, who've done most of the lace for the current Prada collection, produced the guipure lace for the yellow dress.

Awwww! And congrats on your new president! We have watched the inauguration all the way across the pond in The Netherlands. Even monkey knows who Obama is. (proud mommy moment :))
