The pep talk

For the first time in many months, our late evening text messages got back to an old topic as we started down the path of healthy eating habits.

The Blond Series
Anne: It's part of my "new normal." I hate that description for my life but haven't found anything else that fits.

Me: How about "survivor"? That feels a lot more like strength, healthy mind, and confidence. "New normal" feels like compromise, acceptance, and...well, defeat. I know I sort of applied the statement way back when, but I'd like to retract that, Your Honor. :-)

Anne: You are 100% correct. {Peanut Gallery, a standing ovation please. This is a first. I am never right -- even 50% -- where she is concerned.} Acceptance and defeat are exactly what that phrase implies. I guess I'm crossing into the next phase. When you are broken, you strive for normal. When you get to normal again, you look for better than normal. I guess that's where I am right now.

The Red Series
Me: You ARE better than normal. You have an awareness...because you're a survivor. That's a perfect example of better. You have a new appreciation for subtle nuances in life that maybe weren't there before cancer. You choose your battles *a bit* more wisely than you used to...and that's DEFINITELY better.

Anne: Thanks for the pep talk. I'm not where I want to be yet but then again, it's the journey...not the destination. :-)

Me: As Muggsy says, "well DUH, Mom."

A very early step in the journey

What...you mean YOU don't have a pretend Hollywood boyfriend too?

I suppose if I'm going to reappear after a 2 year hiatus, it really should be with a bang.

It's date night in Schaererville, and I'm glad there's a new Daniel-Craig-as-007 film every few years to guarantee Mr. O and I get out of the house together - without the kids.

This film marks 50 years of Bond, and this deliciously dashing iteration of an icon is still the best yet.
